The perfect seven-day adventure itinerary for Mauritius:

Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation

  • Arrive at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
  • To make the most of your exploration across Mauritius, renting a car directly from the airport is highly recommended. Check out our guide on car rentals in Mauritius for the best options.
  • Check into your accommodation, preferably a beachfront hotel or resort. There are also more affordable Airbnbs. We recommend dividing your stay between various locations, maybe one in the South or West, and one in the North or East. Mauritius isn’t a big island but the roads are not the best, so if you’d like to explore all corners of the island, you should make sure to stay in different locations. We live in the West and we rarely go to the North because we think it’s too far (roughly 1h30 drive away). If you are in Mauritius without kids, explore our guide for more information on the finest adult-only resorts in Mauritius.
  • Spend your first day relaxing on the beach, enjoying the warm Indian Ocean waters.
  • Explore the nearby area, perhaps visiting local markets or dining at a seaside restaurant for your first taste of Mauritian cuisine.
