Mauritius can get incredibly hot during the summer, but that’s actually the perfect time to take advantage of the island’s gorgeous waters. While we’ve already covered the best beaches for swimming and snorkeling, the best kayaking trips, catamaran tours and sustainable boat trips, we thought we’d focus on more unique and unusual water experiences you can enjoy while living here or visiting. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just want to unwind in a new way, these activities will add some adventure to your island life.

A quick note: Jet skis were banned in Mauritius in 2016 due to multiple accidents, including at least one fatality. Licensed operators were also not always adhering to safety guidelines. So, while jet skiing is out of the question, there are plenty of other exciting water activities to try!

If you have a bit of sailing experience, Hobie Cat sailing is a fantastic way to enjoy the open water.

For those seeking a true adrenaline rush, kitesurfing is an absolute must-try. Le Morne is one of the best spots on the island for this high-energy sport. You can book a two-hour lesson to learn the basics or improve your skills.
