Top Destinations for Catamaran Trips in Mauritius

In the West: Catamaran Tours to Ile aux Bénitier and Crystal Rock

We have been on catamaran trips to Île aux Bénitiers and Crystal Rock a few times already, we’ve organized a Frolic Meetup on a catamaran to île aux Bénitiers as well, and even for our wedding guests, and it’s an experience we’ve cherished time and again. Departing from Black River, the journey offers stunning views of turquoise waters framed by majestic mountain ranges. One of the highlights of the trip is the opportunity to see dolphins swimming alongside the boat. We’ve been fortunate to encounter these playful creatures on three out of four excursions, adding a touch of wonder to our adventure. The peaceful atmosphere, paired with a delicious BBQ lunch and the chance to swim, makes each outing unforgettable.

As we cruise slowly towards Crystal Rock, guests can marvel at this remarkable natural formation, which emerged from a fossilized coral reef and has stood for billions of years. The snorkeling opportunities at Crystal Rock are fantastic, allowing everyone to explore vibrant marine life before heading to Île aux Bénitiers for relaxation and fun in the sun.

Companies organising catamaran trips to Île aux Bénitier and Crystal Rock:  Océane (recommended), Croisières Australes / Blue Safari, Baba Cool, Black River Charters.

This cruise is usually organized either during the day (usually 9am – 3:30pm), or in the evening for sunset (3h). Both are magical.

In the East: Catamaran Tours from Trou d'Eau Douce to Île aux Cerfs

Make the most of the unique experience that catamarans offer as you explore the stunning East Coast of Mauritius and the famous Île Aux Cerfs.

While we’ve visited Île aux Cerfs via a speed boat, we wouldn’t recommend it due to the overwhelming crowds of tourists on the island that can make the experience feel rushed and chaotic. In contrast, a catamaran cruise offers a much more enjoyable and relaxing day on the water. With spacious decks and a friendly crew, you can savor the stunning scenery at a leisurely pace, and even snorkel in tranquil spots without feeling hurried.

Departing from the picturesque fishermen village of Trou d’Eau Douce, these trips are perfect for those seeking adventure and relaxation under the tropical sun. You’ll embark on a journey that takes you past Îlot Mangénie and the famous Île aux Cerfs. Some of the excursions also take you to the stunning Grande Rivière Sud-Est waterfall. Enjoy snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Eau Bleu, savor a succulent BBQ lunch onboard, and take in the breathtaking scenery that defines this idyllic vacation spot. These excursions offer the perfect blend of leisure and exploration, allowing guests to fully appreciate the beauty of the lagoon.

Companies organising catamaran trips to Île aux Cerfs: Océane, Island Hopper, Tiny Boats, Blue Alizé, Neptune Pirate Cruises.

Price typically range from 1800 to 2,352 Rs depending on the boat amenities and quality of food.

In the North: Catamaran Tours to Coin de Mire and Îlot Gabriel

Embarking on a catamaran cruise to Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin), Îlot Gabriel, and Flat Island is an enchanting way to explore the northern coast of Mauritius. These stunning destinations, located ten kilometers from the mainland, offer a unique blend of natural beauty and tranquility. Departing from Grand Baie, the journey to these islands takes approximately 1.5 hours, providing ample opportunity to soak in the breathtaking views of the turquoise waters and lush landscapes that define this part of the island.

Îlot Gabriel, often regarded as a hidden gem, captivates visitors with its wild and unspoiled nature. Unlike the more crowded Flat Island, Îlot Gabriel offers a serene escape where you can immerse yourself in lush greenery and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery.

Note that the seas can be rough at times, particularly during the Mauritian winter. We’ve organized a Frolic Meetup on a Catamaran to the North in July but had to cancel it once and eventually were not able to reach the islands due to high waves, which can be challenging for those prone to seasickness. When this happens, the captain may choose to come back to Pereybere beach area and let you enjoy the calm water of the lagoon.

Companies organising catamaran trips to the NorthTopCat, Vavavoom, and Baba Cool (trimaran).

Prices typically range from 1700 to 3200 Rs, depending on the boat amenities and quality of food.
