“Eau Bleue” means “blue water”, and that’s referring to the emerald blue water of this waterfall pool which is one of the most beautiful on the island. It’s rated as the No 1. hike to do in Mauritius and consists of six waterfalls. Located in the village of Cluny, in the Southeast, it’s also easy to reach (starting point here) and takes 1h to go and back. The route is short but it will take a little dexterity to reach as the elevation is strong. Take the path opposite the water pumping station and it should only take a few minutes to reach the base of the first waterfall.
2. Chamarel waterfall (Southwest)
The tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius at about 100m high! This is one of the most popular waterfalls with its dramatic tropical rainforest landscape and vegetation around it. Absolutely stunning! You can access the viewpoint from the road, turn left along the Seven Coloured Earth Geopark’s 3km access road, then follow the trail. You can also trek down the secret valley of the Chamarel Waterfall, which is a 3 hours trek where you can swim in the pool.

The waterfalls are located just behind the Eureka House, a mansion from the 1830s which now serves as a museum and a restaurant. A visit to the Eureka waterfalls combined with a guided tour of the mansion and garden costs about Rs300 and would last 1-2 hours. The domain is open from 9am to 5pm, except on Sunday till 3pm. The hike to the waterfalls isn’t too strenuous, and we recommend combining with a lunch at the restaurant to get freshly made creole food in a beautiful setting.

This waterfall is another very popular attraction in Mauritius. It’s the widest and is 152 meters above sea level. It’s set in a rugged, wild and lush green landscape in the south of the island, near Souillac. The cascade emerges from the cane fields after a 5 minute walk from your car. Follow the signs, the route is rather circuitous but reliable. It takes 1h30 to go and come back.

From the parking, head towards the “Tea Trees” forest and find a small path going to the left, near the river stream, before the Alexandra Falls view point.
