Road closed

Purge of the Macondé cliff: the Black River Savanne Coast Road B9 closed from April 17

In order to avoid falling rocks, rock clearing work will soon be undertaken by Sotravic Ltee on behalf of the Road Development Authority, on the Macondé cliff located along the Black River Savanne Coast Road B9 near La Prairie . The Black River Savanne Coast Road B9 will thus be completely closed to traffic in both directions for a period of three months from April 17, 2023.

International calls +92 and +48: Mauritius Telecom warns

Mauritius Telecom has never organized a lottery and even less mandated employees to collect information through Whastapp calls. Clarification provided by the mobile phone company through a press release issued this Tuesday, April 4. The public is currently receiving international calls from individuals posing as MT employees using area codes +92 and +48. The latter make their interlocutors believe that they are the winners of a lottery and attempt to collect confidential information such as bank accounts. Thus, Mauritius Telecom warns against this type of call.

City Hall of Curepipe: The inauguration scheduled for April 21

The inauguration of the City Hall of Curepipe will take place on Friday April 21, at 4 p.m., in the presence of the Prime Minister. This information was communicated to us by Mayor Hans Margueritte who adds that the work has been completed at 89% to date.

In 2022: An average of 4 accidents per hour recorded

No less than 35,513 road accidents were recorded in Mauritius in 2022, against 28,660 the previous year, representing an increase of 23.9%. Of this number of cases, 99 accidents will have caused one or more deaths, and 2,180 others serious or superficial injuries. According to figures from Statistics Mauritius released last Friday, the number of deaths last year stands at 108, exactly the same as for 2021. The most vulnerable category is still and always that of motorcyclists, with 53 victims. Then follow the pedestrians (33 deaths), the passengers of four wheels (13), the drivers (5) and the cyclists (4).
