From October 29: Air Mauritius will provide a daily service to London
Air Mauritius will operate a daily flight to London from October 29. The national carrier will also transfer its operations from Heathrow Airport to London Gatwick. The service will be provided by an Airbus A350-900 and an A330-900neo, with a configuration comprising two classes: business and economy.

More expensive electricity tariff: An increase of Rs 250 on average for individuals
Since February 1, the electricity bill has increased within a range of 19% to 29.5%, depending on consumption. Based on a series of testimonies, there is an overall increase which oscillates between Rs 200 and Rs 300 on the side of the most modest households or from the middle class. In a period when air conditioners are operating at full speed, wealthy households are necessarily subject to a significant additional charge which varies between Rs 800 and Rs 1200. At the level of shops, everything seems to indicate that only those storing a large quantity of frozen products, requiring a consumption of more than 400 units, were greatly impacted by this increase.

The impact of the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar is being felt. Importers of food products are revising their prices upwards following the increase in import costs. While some prices have already climbed, further increases are expected in the coming days.

Free preschool: wrong notes in the nursery rhyme
The announcement made by the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, on March 12, to the effect that preschool will be free from January 2024, raises questions. If in principle, it is quite normal for free to be extended to the little ones, as is the case for the older ones, in practice, this raises many questions. Because preschool is the education sector where the state is the least committed, with 188 public preschool units for the whole island. The private sector has 507. One wonders whether it was not wiser to invest in more public schools.

Sainte-Croix: The new footbridge inaugurated
The new footbridge, near the Nicolay bridge, along the Port-Louis/ Flacq (A2) road, in Sainte-Croix, was inaugurated by the Minister of Energy and Public Services, Joe Lesjongard, in the presence of his National Infrastructure colleague, Bobby Hurreeram, Joanne Tour and the Lord Mayor, Mahfooz Moussa Cadersaib. The opportunity for the first named to express his satisfaction with the construction of this footbridge.
Road closed
“Fly over” from Quay D: the M2 motorway partially closed from this Tuesday evening
As part of the construction work in progress at the “Fly over” of Quay D, the M2 motorway will be partially closed between the Mer Rouge roundabout and that of Quay D from this Tuesday March 21 to March 28 between 8:00 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Floating solar photovoltaic project in Tamarind Falls in the making
A floating solar photovoltaic project will be set up at the Tamarind Falls Reservoir. This was announced by Energy and Utilities Minister Joe Lesjongard.
“The government plans to implement a floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the reservoirs of Mauritius to generate electricity. A 2 MW power station based on floating PV will be installed at Tamarind Falls Reservoir on a pilot basis,” he said during a visit to Tamarind Falls, Henrietta yesterday to take stock of progress. the implementation of phase II of the Solar PV Farm project.
