The Festival du Livre Trou d’Eau Douce is back for its third edition, taking place from October 13th to 15th on the public beach. This annual literary extravaganza has firmly established itself as a must-attend event on the global and Indian Ocean literature calendar. Last year, it played host to literary giants like Mohamed Mbougar, the 2021 Prix Goncourt winner, alongside renowned authors such as Ananda Devi, Priya Hein, Michèle Rakotoson, Yusuf Kadel, Shenaz Patel, and Amarnath Hosany, to name a few. This year, the spotlight shifts to India, but the festival continues to celebrate Mauritian literature. One of the highlights will be the opportunity to discover the masterpiece “Lal Pasina” by the late Abhimanyu Unnuth, a literary giant. The festival also marks the release of Marcel Cabon’s complete works, making these literary treasures accessible to the younger generation. Carpe Diem Trail Running Event
Carpe Diem, an NGO founded by the artist Angel Angoh and registered in 2015, is hosting a Trail Running event on October 15, 2023, at Chasse du Morne, Rivière Noire. Carpe Diem’s mission is to conduct art therapy sessions and creative art workshops for inmates, individuals in struggling communities, and those seeking personal development.
Their goal is to help beneficiaries embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-fulfillment by using art as a means of expression and communication. Additionally, Carpe Diem aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of art as a therapeutic tool for rehabilitation in Mauritian prisons, a practice dating back to 1999.
In addition to its annual solidarity march, Carpe Diem is organizing its first trail-running event this year to raise funds for its projects.
