Reservoirs are drying up, rainfall is becoming less predictable, and restrictions are common. According to numbers published on August 3rd by the Water Resources Commission (WRC) , the country\u2019s reservoir water level stands at 40.2% compared to 89.9% during the same period last year. Poor water management, outdated infrastructure, and environmental damage are making things worse:<\/p><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li><p><strong>Massive Water Loss<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>50% of the country\u2019s water is lost<\/strong> due to leaks in the distribution network and feeder canals.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Deforestation Near Reservoirs<\/strong> \u2013 Trees help retain groundwater, but large-scale deforestation has made it harder to store water effectively.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Climate Change<\/strong> \u2013 Rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns are extending drought periods and reducing rainfall.<\/p><\/li><li><p><strong>Unbalanced Water Consumption<\/strong> \u2013 Industries, including hotels and large businesses, consume a significant share of the island\u2019s water. Having a personal reservoir reduces dependence on the national grid, especially during shortages. To help low-income families, the government is offering <strong>MUR 15,000 in financial aid<\/strong> to install a water tank and pump. To qualify, household income must be below <strong>MUR 60,000 per month.<\/strong><\/p><p>Eligible applicants can visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=100063898545645\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polyco Solar Ltd<\/a> in Terre Rouge, Poste de Flacq and The Vale with their CWA bill and ID copies of household members to apply.<\/p><h4><strong>2. Use Water Wisely Throughout the Year<\/strong><\/h4><ul data-spread=\"false\"><li><p>Fix leaks and install water-saving devices, like faucet aerators and shower heads with low flow restrictors. <a href=\"https:\/\/frolic.mu\/transform-your-space-unveiling-the-top-home-decor-and-diy-stores-in-mauritius\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">You&#8217;ll find those devices in your DIY and home stores<\/a>.<\/p><\/li><li><p>Use a bucket and sponge instead of a hose for cleaning your car<\/p><\/li><li><p>Take shorter showers and turn off taps when not in use<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h4><strong>3. Harvest Rainwater<\/strong><\/h4><p>Collect rainwater to use for non-drinking purposes like watering plants or flushing toilets.<\/p><h4><strong>4.
